86,000 Voters Purged Recently from Louisiana Rolls

Since the last special election almost 800 residents have permanently moved away from HD-94.

Louisiana’s Secretary of State Jay Dardenne recently cleared more than 86,000 voters from the state’s voter rolls.  The process to remove inactive voters appears to have flaws, based on a recent investigation.  Prompted by a complaint from a voter in Rapides Parish who received a letter that he had been purged from the rolls due to “his current registration in Florida,” a representative from the Louisiana Democratic Party contacted the Florida Secretary of State’s office. The voter said that he had never lived or registered in Florida, but the Florida rolls revealed a voter with the same date of birth, and first and last names.  However, other identifying factors differed, including middle names, party affiliation, social security, etc.  Why did Dardenne’s system kick out this voter as inactive when he was registered and consistently voted in Rapides Parish for the past five years?

Dardenne’s research appears to have serious flaws, and other qualified voters may be among those 86,000+ recently removed from the roll.  Louisiana voters are encouraged to protect their right to vote.  When in doubt, submit an updated voter registration application to the Parish Registrar of Voters.
