The Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority, co-founded by the man who "Swiftboated" John Kerry's presidential campaign (Houston millionaire Bob Perry), demonstrated in the District 94 special election that distortion will be at the centerpiece of the $2.3 million they will spend on legislative campaigns this fall in Louisiana.
Yes, they say they are going to raise $2.5 million and target 37 House races; but, as a large PAC, they can only contribute $5,000 to each candidate they support in those races. Let's round up to 40 races. That means the LCRM will spend up to $200,000 on direct candidate support.
The remaining $2.3 million will go into pieces like the ones they mailed to select households in District 94 in the final days of the campaign.
There were at least two mail pieces. They are grouped below, front and back. The final image is a close up of the postal permit and credit line on the mailing.
The Louisiana Committee for a Republican Majority is modeled after disgraced House leader Tom DeLay's Texans for a Republican Majority. That group illegally funneled corporate money into state elections in Texas in 2003. DeLay was forced to resign his seat after being indicted for his role in that scheme. He is awaiting trial on the felony charges resulting from the investigation of that scheme.
Mailer #1:
This piece was torn by the recipient, who then thought better of it and taped it back together to preserve for the record.
